Phoenix from the Flame

Product Review by Tonie Silver of Le Parfumeur Rebelle, California, 2010

Phoenix Botanicals makes some really groovy little balms. Balms can be tricky~ there’s good ones, and not-so good ones~ these are good ones. Irina has a really nice hand at blending. Full of green witchy healing magic, her balms are smooth and dense, and they sink right into the skin and protect it. I am not a fan of waxy beeswax stuff, but Irina has her blends down just right.

The Sweet Birch Balm is cooling and healing, with just enough of a sweet birch smell to be pleasant, not icky. Smells like paste that you used when you were a kid. Nice.:) This balm made short work of healing my tore up hands.

The Cedar Balm, made with thuja, smells reaaally good. Warm, soft, and comforting. My favorite balm in the range. Highly recommended.

The Healing Weeds Balm is grand . It just smells so good, like my backyard. Plantain, yarrow (one of my faves!), and organic olive oil make it very healing indeed. Irina offers a couple of her balms in both tins and tubes.

The Wild Rose is so delicate and pretty; smells of real roses due to the infused olive oil. Comes in a pretty little pink tube. The Faerie Balm contains yet another one of my favorite things: linden flowers! Honey sweet and warm smelling, this is a calming, comforting balm.

Wild! That’s what the Wild Mint Lip Balm is. Perfectly soothing with yarrow and wild iris. I like the red tube that this is housed in~ hot! I found these balms to be pretty darn perfect in every way: texture, scent, and effectiveness. If only the tins were bigger…!:)
